Weinstein Jewelers of Novi is a family-owned business. It all started when Harry Weinstein started selling jewelry out of a shoe box, peddling on the street in the 1940s. His brothers Jack, Hiegh, and Fred joined him when they returned from serving in WWII.
The Weinstein brothers opened their first store front in the downtown Detroit Metro East Side on the corner of Houston Whittier and Kelly and later expanded to Dearborn. Impacted by the Detroit riots in the 1970s, they relocated to West Bloomfield. It was at this location that Fred’s youngest son, Gary, was hired as a jeweler’s apprentice.
Gary’s passion and love for jewelry grew into a full-blown love affair. Gary attended the Gemological Institute of America (the highest ranking school in the jewelry industry) in 1978, and received his Graduate Degree in Gemology and Setting/Design Certifications in 1979. Gary left the West Bloomfield location in 1984, and traveled around the world learning the wholesale Diamond trading industry and the business of repair and design. After three years of self-discovery and mastering the art of fine jewelry, Gary opened his own store in Novi, MI in 1987, and has been serving the greater Novi area for over 25 years.
