Jewelry repair is one of our specialties. We can repair both costume and fine jewelry. Prices vary, but we offer a free evaluation so you can make an educated decision. In most cases, repairs are done on premises and are often available for pickup within one week. We also offer an express service if you would like to wait while our expert jeweler is repairing your piece. All jewelry left with Weinstein Jewelers is insured for the declared value while the item is in our care.
Rebuilding Ring Settings
Over time ring settings wear down and you can be at risk of loosing your stones. It is best to have your jewelry items checked every 4 – 6 months to make sure your stones are secure in their settings.
Rebuilding Ring Settings Using A Torch
The jeweler uses a small torch that is fluid with a mixture of oxygen and natural gas. This torch has a special tip size for a precise welding. The jeweler will place precious metal solder where needed and weld it seamlessly into place. After the ring is rebuilt the jeweler will round out the area of repair so it will match the rest of the setting. Due to the heat involved in this process the only stones that are eligible for this repair are Rubies, Diamonds, and Sapphires. There is a saying in the business, “WHEN PUT TO THE TEST THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE CAN TAKE THE HEAT”.
Rebuilding Ring Settings Using A Laser
For gemstones that are not red, white or blue there is an alternate technique that is new to the jewelry industry. Laser welding is a done in the same manner as torch welding, but without the heat to the other areas. This process allows the jeweler to rebuild the setting without applying heat to the stones. This is not an in-store service and may take a little longer.
Removing and Resetting Stones
If rebuilding your setting is not the best solution for the repair needed due to the type of gemstone or the complication of the repair, we are able to remove the stones and reset them into new crowns (this is the part that holds your stones in the setting). This is often a better solution than laser welding since the cost sometimes can be the same. This technique cannot be used on flush-set stones. Our expert jeweler will explain the type of repair needed and supply you with a free estimate so you can make an educated decision.
Replacing Missing Parts
Over time all jewelry items become worn or may break. The clasp on your chain or the safety chain on your bracelet may break, you may loose an earring back, the mounting that holds your stones in place may become too worn to be repaired, etc. Weinstein Jewelers specializes in supplying and installing replacement parts that fit the original design of the jewelry item. Our expert jeweler will use all the current market resources to find the perfect replacement. If for some reason the part is unavailable he is also able to hand make a replacement part. We pride ourselves in never turning a client away no matter how small the repair. We are committed to fulfilling everyone’s needs so our clients can enjoy their jewelry for many years to come.
Chain Repair
We all have had our favorite necklace and bracelets that will wear out over time and eventually break. The most utilized service we offer is precious metal and semi precious metal soldering. The jeweler is able to seamlessly solder your jewelry item and if there are any additional worn areas we can repair them before they break. There is no reason not to continue to enjoy your favorite piece for many more years to come.
Replacing Stones
Have you ever lost a stone out of your jewelry and panicked — thinking there is no possible way to replace the stone? The good news is you can! Whether your stone is chipped or lost we can find the perfect replacement for you. The replacement is matched by hand to guarantee a seamless repair. The jeweler will inspect your item and make sure no other stones are at risk of loss or are chipped.
Repairing Costume and Antique Jewelry
Do you have a piece of costume or antique jewelry that a loved one has given you? You are probably already aware that the piece may not contain gemstones or gold, but the value is not what makes it precious to you. You remember your loved one wearing it so often that it is now in need of some tender love and care. Gary Weinstein specializes in repairing antique and costume jewelry. These items cannot be treated like precious metal items and it takes a certain welding process for repair. Often these items contain stones that have been cemented into place and some may be missing. We have a selection of replacement stones and are able to go over the piece to see if any other stones need to be re-cemented. Gary always keeps in mind the period in which the item was made and makes sure the repair or parts supplied matches the design of the piece. Please don’t hesitate to bring your item in to be evaluated. If it is precious to you we will treat it with the respect it deserves.
Guarantee on Jewelry Repair
We guarantee our jewelry repairs for one year from the date of delivery. This guarantee may not be offered if item needs additional work and it is not done. Our repairs are guaranteed for 12 months.
